Candles can add something to a picture and are full of meaning. The trick is to get everything. Even if you have something on one side, you have something that matches the other, especially if you have a fancy candlestick.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES

Begin with a line going up and down to be a "center" guideline that you will use as a reference, but you will erase later. It is OK to use a ruler to get the lines straight.

On each side of the guideline, put marks to indicate the places where the candle and candlestick have shape. Don't draw the shapes just yet; right now, you want to mark the places- like making a plan. The marks must be the SAME DISTANCE on each side of the center guideline. If the mark for a curve on the candlestick is an inch on the right side, there should be a mark that is one inch on the left side.

Use circles to make the curves of the fancy candlestick; make sure the circles are the same sizes where they mirror each other. Part of the circles will get erased later, so draw lightly.

Connect the marks with up and down lines.

The bottom of the candlestick has a curve going down and out like an upside-down rainbow but slighter.

The candle has drips at the top; they look like teardrops.

The flame is two curving lines that touch at the top, the flame looks like a teardrop, but one that is bent like an "S." And the wick looks like a question mark.

Add decoration to the candlestick using dots, circles, or diamond shapes.

Erase the extra lines.

Add shadows.
