How To Draw The Three Wise Men. Lesson and Worksheet

This is a how-to-draw the Three Wise Men lesson.

This free printable drawing worksheet is an art lesson that is a little more complicated on the surface, but it is a fun, and rewarding project after you have the basic design worked out.

The how-to-draw the three wise men worksheet may be printed by highlighting it and sending it to your printer or saving it to your device and printing later. Some people have better luck by dragging the image off to the desktop and printing from there. If you have trouble making the worksheet below print, CLICK HERE to visit my how-to-print page for some suggestions.

PRINTABLE NOTES

Start by drawing lightly at first so you can change things and erase them later.

BASIC FACE
Make each head a different shape, one can be oval, one egg-shaped, and one can be an upside-down teardrop shape. Have the one in the middle taller than the other two. Use a guideline up and down the center of each head so things can be kept even. Use another guideline across the center so the eyes will not be too high or low. Lightly draw these guidelines since you will want to erase them later.

DETAILS
Keep the details simple. Draw the crowns and hats last so you can focus on making good portraits. Draw the eyes curving downward like a bowl or a letter "u" because the wise men are looking down at the baby Jesus.  This is the only thing they have in common, make every face different.

Here are a few ideas.
     * Give one face bushy eyebrows and one no eyebrows at all.
     * Give one curly hair and make one bald.
     * Give one a beard and make one without a beard.
     * Give one a nose like a long letter "V" and give one a fat nose like three circles.
     * Give one a black beard and one a white beard.
     * Make the ears shaped like peanuts on one and kidney beans on the other.
     * Give one baggy shadow under the eyes.
     * Give one smile wrinkles.

HANDS
Start drawing them lightly like mittens without detail. Remember, the thumbs are pointing outward since the hands are palm up. After you have the general mitten shape, then draw three lines up and down to divide the fingers. Erase the outline of the mitten and add the fingernails.

GIFTS
The jar of incense is round, the box of spice is square, and the bag of gold, it is lumpy and round.

Make the robes simple. In my example, at the bottom, I drew it in a light pencil; afterward, I used a fine-tipped marker and went over my pencil, then erased the pencil. I finished it with watercolor. The copier guy only charges a little extra for color, and it makes a lovely half-fold Christmas card.
