BEGINNINGS
Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later. Draw a cross for the tombstone.
To get the pose right, use an articulated stick figure with elbow, knees, hips, and shoulders. You may have to try a few times before you get it just right. Pose the figure around the cross or tombstone. Save the wings and robe for later.

DEVELOP FORM
Around the stick figure, draw the shape of the arms and legs, so they are rounded. The head is turned down, so you draw the top and hair, like two circles. The hand is a narrow curve like the letter "C" and hides the face.

ADDING DETAILS
The angel is holding a wreath. Draw it as a circle and fill in the circle with leaves and flowers.
The robe is simple; it has a belt at the waist but is flowing lines around the body.

FINISHING TOUCHES
The wings are not perfect since she is grieving. Add the feathers in rows. Make the background dark for contrast.

BEGINNINGS
Draw lightly so you can erase later. Draw a large circle just a little above and to the side of the center of your paper. Draw a small circle in the center of the large circle as a reference point. Use two lines for the stem.

The petals of the Hibiscus flower are like a pinwheel, where each petal overlaps the one on the right. There are five petals. Draw them as sweeping half-circles starting from the center and going out to the edge. Draw two lines for the stamen (the part that sticks out of the center). Draw triangles to get the placement of the leaves behind the flower and on the stem.

DEVELOP FORM
The petals have crinkly edges, so go over the petals and give some crinkles. The leaves have some jagged edges, so go over them and give the jagged edges.

There are vanes in the leaves. One goes down the middle, draws it as a thick line, and then some go out to the edges and draw them as lighter lines.

SHADING
The shading is an important part and so take your time with it. The leaves are all darker than the flower. The dark on the leaves is the darkest nearest the flower and more light near the edges.

The flower is darkest in the center, and there is a shadow under the overlapping right edge where each overlaps the other.

The stem is darker on one side.

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

BEGINNINGS
Start the stalk with two lines that are a little farther apart at the bottom and almost touching at the top.

Add three or four ovals for the corn.  The ovals are different sizes, the bigger ones are at the bottom and the smallest ones are at the top. Start them halfway up.  Draw them one on the right then on the left side a little higher than on the right a little higher.

Mark off lines where each leaf is going to be, they alternate on each side and tilt upward.

DEVELOP FORM
Draw the leaves like long blades of grass that go up and flop down.  The leaves are bigger at the bottom and smaller at the top.  Have some cross in front of others for a realistic three-dimensional effect.  The bottom line of the leaves angels all the way across the stalk

There are flowers at the top they are small rows of circles and flop over.

DETAILS
The corn cob has leaves wrapping around it, so draw a line curving across the length of the corn to show this. To draw the open one use two lines for the leaves on each side, (so it is in thirds lengthwise), in the center third draw a checkered grid, then round off the squares and darken the points where the grid lines cross.

SHADING
Use shading to give it roundness.

This printable worksheet for how to draw a sailboat is simple and great for when your student says they do not know what to draw.  It uses a few shapes and lines to form the sailboat, and then the bottom example has a scene that includes the texture of the water and distant land to interest the project and introduce a little challenge to the young artist. Sailboats come in all shapes, so if yours doesn't look right, do not get upset because there is one like it somewhere.

Printable Project Notes.

BEGINNINGS
Draw the line where the water touches the bottom of the boat first, make it horizontal and straight across, and don't look like the boat is going uphill. The second line should be the mast. It will be a little ahead of the 1/2 way point. Use simple shapes to form a basic outline of the boat. The sails are like triangles. The boat is like a rectangle with a triangle at the front.

DEVELOPING FORM
The mast is two lines. There is a cabin, it is another rectangle, on top of the first. There are windows on the side of the cabin. The front sail curves, so go over the lines to give it a curve. The front of the boat has a curve. The water at the front of the boat has a splash.

FINISHING TOUCHES
Draw a little man sitting in the back but keep him simple.

Draw islands in the distance.
Add waves to the water. The waves are thicker and darker in the lower foreground and less thinner and lighter in the distance. Add an island or two and the setting sun.

LESSON NOTES YOU MAY PRINT

BEGINNING
Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later. Use tools like a ruler and something circular to trace around for the wheels.

Draw a line for the ground so the leg in the front and the wheel are on the same plane.

Use simple shapes to start. A circle for the wheel. A rectangle for the cart body. Parallelogram for the side of the awning and for the narrow back end.

The awning is a little bigger than the cart.

The far wheel is a little to the side of the nearer wheel.

There is a post from the cart to the awning. Draw it from the center back to the tip of the awning.

DEVELOP FORM
The awning has stripes. Before you draw them use guide marks so they are even and in order. There are half-circles at the bottom they connect to the guide marks.

The wheel has a hub it is one or two circles in the middle. There are eight spokes. Use guide-marks to make them even think of it as a clock and start with the top then mark the bottom. Next, mark the right and the left, after that do the ones in between evenly. After you have marked the off draw the spokes from the hub to the rim.

Fill out the post by drawing lines on both sides so it is thick and draw the side pieces.

Draw the tubular shapes of the buckets.

FLOWERS
TAKE YOUR TIME! Do not hurry as you draw the flowers. Make different types. Some will look like spiky stars. Some will look like popcorn, some will look like funnels, some will look like small circles. Make the leaves like wavy triangles.

This could be a very colorful picture. Have fun.

Here is a printable worksheet, a simple little drawing that looks nice when put in a frame or as a greeting card. It was inspired by my wife's mini vase in the kitchen, where she would put one or two cut flowers.

LESSON NOTES

BEGINNING
Remember to draw lightly at first so you can erase later.
Start by using some basic shapes to form the composition. Two large ovals begin the flowers, put two small ovals in the center of each. They are guidelines that you will erase later.
The vase is three ovals one above the other and then lines connecting them; curved lines between the top two and straight lines between the bottom two.

DEVELOP FORM
     * The petals are each drawn with two lines from the center oval and the outer oval.
     * There are no more than nine petals; do not make them perfect, give a few twists and bends that will look more real.
     * The tips of the petals have a jagged sawtooth edge shape like the letter "W"
     * The stem is two lines going down into the glass vase. There is a break where the water confuses the light.

DETAILS
     * Draw some shiny spots on the glass vase before you draw the stems inside and the water line inside.
     * The glass will show the backside of the table, but it will not be straight or even because the glass is curved and the water refracts the light.
     * The center of the flower is fuzzy- use dots but give more dots in the very center.
     * The petals have veins and lines going down them.

SHADING
     * The light through the glass on the back will be brighter so give the tabletop all-around a little shading for contrast.
     * The center where the petals connect will be darker.
     * One side of each stem will be darker.

PRINTABLE NOTES

BEGINNING
Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later.

Draw an articulated stick figure to give him the right pose. The stick figure should have joints at the knees and elbows. The figure is sideways with one foot forward toward you and one arm out toward you, it will look short but that is perspective. The other arm back out of view.  The head is low and the chin almost touching the shoulder.

DEVELOP FORM
After you have the basic pose worked out then go around the stick figure and draw the shapes of the arms, legs, and body. Keep drawing lightly or be ready to trace onto fresh paper.

CLOTHING
The leggings are tight on his skin. The boots go almost to the knees and have a flap folding over the top. The shirt doesn't show except for the collar and the sleeve on the arm facing forward. The leather jerkin over the shirt has rectangular fringes on the waist and the shoulder. A belt goes around the waist, another belt goes over the shoulder to the sword.

FACE
Keep the face simple. Give him a short pointy beard. Draw a line under the lower lip for the shadow. Use a dash for the eyebrows. Draw a thin line for the eyes, with a dot at the outside near tip so it looks like he is looking at you.  The face is turned slightly away so the nose is to one side and the far eye is partly hidden.

Hand the hand starts out boxy. The thumb points up, draw three short lines inside the boxy shape from the outer edge to halfway across, it will look like fingers

DETAILS
The far hand is almost hidden from view just draw a curving line for the top shape and a line for the fingers.

Take your time with the weapons. Draw the curve of the bow all the way, after you have the length and curve right go back and draw the tapering shape of the bow. The sword is almost at the back. Take your time with it. Don't try to draw every arrow in the quiver just give the basic shape and the impression of a lot of arrows.

Use a lot of color, mostly browns and greens with black for accents. Use shading technique to give it roundness.

BEGINNINGS
Start with an articulated stick figure, that is kind of an advanced stick figure with joints for the shoulders, hips, knees elbows. etc.  Draw lightly so you can erase later.  Pose the figure with the near leg raised, and the near shoulder lowered with the arm extended across to tap the tambourine on the other side. Use the stick figure to work out the position of the arms and legs.

DEVELOPING FORM
After you have her posed then go around the stick figure to draw the contours of the arms and legs.

FACE
Keep the face simple.  Use guidelines to keep things even. She is turned 1/3rd away so you see more of one side of her face than the far side.  The eyes are halfway down from the top of the head to the chin. Just use a couple of curved lines to give her a look of concentration.  The nose is only a line starting at the eyebrow and going down at a curve and ending with a dash for the shadow underneath. The mouth his just a dash for the upper lip and a short dash for the shadow under the lower lip.

HANDS
Think of the hands as mittens and don't worry about drawing every finger unless you have a very large drawing.

CLOTHING
The clothing is loose and flowing use lines to show the curves of the cloth.

DETAILS
Draw lots of jewelry with big earrings, necklaces bracelets, and chains.  Do not forget the Emerald on the chain around her neck that is where she gets her name.  Draw circles for the coins that are sewn into the edge of her dress and shawl. The Gypsies would wear a headscarf that covered much of their hair.

BEGINNINGS
Draw a line for the ground so the feet connect with the ground.
Start with an articulated stick figure; that is a stick figure with elbows, knees, hips, and shoulders. Draw dots for the elbows and knees hips and shoulders.
     * The far shoulder goes up, so draw it high, and the far elbow is high.
     * The near shoulder is low, and the near elbow is very low.
     * The head is very low and a little forward.
     *The near hip is high and the far hip is low.
     * the near knee is almost straight down. The near lower leg goes far back.
     * The far knee and leg are as far forward as possible but a little bent at the knee.
Make sure the feet connect to the ground the back foot is on its toe the front foot is pointing.

BUILD HIM UP
Draw around the stick figure to make the body thick and the arms and legs muscular.

The face is hidden in part by the helmet, the helmet covers half of the head.  Keep the face simple. The mouth is just a dash.  The eye is a dash. The nose is the letter "L" at an angle.

HANDS
The thumb on the near hand is on top and the fingers disappear under the bat. The thumb on the far hand is under the bat and only the top of the hand is showing.

DETAILS
Draw the clothes last. Put a shadow under him. Use shading to give him roundness.

BEGINNINGS
Draw an oval shape for the head and a large oval shape for the body. The head is low and the body should look fat.
The two front legs are just curved lines bending outward from each other. The rear leg is like a triangle that is bent into a slight "S" shape.
The tail is like a long oval

DEVELOP FORM
The ears are triangles but rounded at the tops. Make the outline of the body fuzzy fur use lots of short lines.

FACE
Use guidelines to help keep the features of the face even.
The eyes are above the halfway mark. They are black but have a shiny spot inside.
The mask comes to a point on each cheek. The points tilt downward.
The nose is just a little below center it is like a down-pointing triangle with two dashes inside it

DETAILS
The feet are like little hands but you can use grass to hide the feet.
There is a black triangle on the top of the head.
There are only three stripes on the tail, but the tip of the tail is black.

FINISH
Draw a scene around the raccoon.
Use shadow technique to make him look round.
