PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES

Begin to make the outline by drawing basic shapes to get the form right. Draw lightly so you can erase later on.

BODY
The head starts as a circle on the shoulder of the body. On top of the head put two large triangles, they are close together. The body is an irregular rectangle that is taller at the shoulder.

LEGS
Draw a line on the ground so all the legs are the same length; this line can be the shadow underneath the fox when you are done. The back legs are like bent triangles shaped like a backward letter "S." The front legs are very thin triangles they have a slight bend at the elbow which is high up by the shoulder. The feet are circles at the bottom. (If you have problems with the feet draw the fox in high grass and hide the feet.)

Once you are happy with the basic shape go over it again with a darker pencil and erase the extra lines.

FACE
Use a guideline down the center of the head, and another guideline across the center forming a large + sign this helps keep things even. Thy eyes are below the cross mark. They are small circles outlined by almond-shaped eyelids.

The nose is a triangle pointing down and rounded on the corners. It is at the end of a narrow muzzle. The mouth is only a straight line across. The chin is a small line shaped like the letter "U" but not as wide as the nose.

The cheek fur goes out and down. There is fur in the ears that puffs out. The fur on the body lays down-pointing back toward the tail.

The tail is almost as long as the body and almost as wide.

Foxes come in many colors, brown, white, cinnamon, grey, and black. Add shadow underneath and under the chin. Put shadow on the far rear leg, and a shadow on the ground.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES

Start with an outline; draw lightly so you can erase later.

BODY
The body is a big oval but wide at the bottom line an egg.
The head is a circle with two circles for ears. The ears are on the sides of the head and the tops of the ears go no higher than the top of the head.

FACE
The eyes are halfway down the face. The nose starts halfway down and goes a quarter of the way tot he chin. The nostrils are shaped like an upside won "V" There is a little wrinkle around the eyes. The mouth is a little wider than the nose.

LEGS PAWS
The legs are all short and shaped like long triangles.
The hands and feet are bony with four fingers and sharp claws.

Koalas do not have a tail.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES

Make the pose using a stick figure; bend the arms and the legs. The baby has short arms and legs, and a very big head with almost no neck.  Draw this lightly so you can erase it later.

Once the pose is right, then draw circles for the shapes of the arms and legs, draw right over the stick figure. Draw the chubby body as a circle for the chest and a bigger circle for the tummy.

Outline the shape made by the circles it should look like a chubby baby.

Keep the hands simple, just squares tilted at an angle with the thumbs up. The feet are just bent rounded triangles.

Use a very sharp pencil to lightly draw the features of the face, keep it simple. Give him a big forehead. Put the eye, nose, mouth in the bottom third. Use only a dot for the eye, he has no eyebrow or chin. The hair is curly, thin, and short, don't overdo it.

Make the wings tiny. Outline them first with curved lines that go out and up. There are not many feathers.

Give him a diaper or ribbon over the special areas.

I suggest you practice drawing the bow and arrow on another piece of paper before trying it in the final project. Use a guide line up and down so the ends of the bow are in the right place. Draw a large bend that touches the guideline. The arrow should be right across the middle of the bow. Draw the bowstring last.

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

Start by lightly drawing an outline, you will want to erase some later.
Use a guideline straight up and down to center things so they stay even.
At the top of the guideline draw two circles that overlap slightly.
Below the circles draw a large letter "V." It goes from the circles, and the point meets the guideline.

Start the ribbon by drawing two bent lines parallel to each other, they could be right across the heart or lower.
Use a line to connect the top and the bottom at the ends.
Add two double curving lines at the bottom starting at the outside edge, going back in, then down and then out, like an "S" on one side and a backward "S" on the other.
Add a short horizontal parallel line halfway down the outside edge of the ribbon.
Use lines up and down to connect the top parts to the bottom curved parts.

Put the "M" on the ribbon on the guideline to keep the lettering even. Next put the "B" on the left and the "e" on the right. Last fill in the rest of the letters to spell out "Be Mine."

Erase the guideline and any extra marks then go over the drawing with a dark pencil or marker.

Color it as you want and give it to someone.

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

BEGINNING
Start with straight lines to make the basic body. Just outline it lightly at first. The body is almost a rectangle but higher at the shoulders and lower for the chest. The neck is strong and powerful so make it thick.

 LEGS
Draw a line back and forth for the ground so the legs all are the same length. The back leg is curved down and back along the backbone, the thigh of the back leg is curved down and going way back to the ankle. The bottom of the leg is shaped like an "L," use straight lines to draw it. The front legs are almost straight lines but a little wider at the shoulder. The ankle bends forward to the paw.

HEAD
Draw the head with short straight lines at first to outline the shape. Give the muzzle a slight hump or bend in it. The ears are pointed and lean forward slightly. The forehead could be either high or low. Be careful about the teeth, they can make a good drawing look messy- less is more with teeth.

FINISHING TOUCHES
Go over your drawing with a darker pencil or a marker to make the lines smooth and clean. Erase any extra lines. Give him a collar and a badge. His badge or vest could say, "K9" or "Deputy Dog." You can color the Dog brown or black.

BEGINNINGS
Decide on your pose. Have the character doing something. A pose where the subject is just standing is not as interesting.

You may want to use a piece of scratch paper to work out the position of your characters arms and legs.

Draw a stick figure in the position you want your character to be in. Next, draw the arms and legs, and body around the stick figure.  The fairy has long arms and legs, but they have some slight curves to them also.

Once you have the basic shape worked out, then erase the extra lines of the stick figure.

FACE
Keep the face simple. Our example is in profile. The eyes are halfway between the top of the head and the chin. The eyes are simply a curved line going downward for the eyelid and a dash below that for the eye. The nose is just a triangle, and the mouth is a curved line for the upper lip and a little half-circle for the bottom lip. The ear is pointed, but if you have problems with the ear, you can cover it up with hair.

Keep the hair simple, draw it like long waves.

HANDS
The hands start out not quite square; the thumb is like a peanut off to one side. The fingers are four lines spaced evenly apart, and then draw a second line for each finger.

FEET
The feet are three circles, a big one for the heel, a small one for the ball of the foot, and a little one to be the end of the big toe. Draw lines across the top and the bottom of the circles to make the basic foot shape; remember the bottom curves up a little, and the top gets higher by the ankle.

WINGS
The butterfly wings may take some time to work out. They are like two triangles; one above is big and tilted outward, and the one below is thin and tilted downward. Use a separate piece of scratch paper and work out your ideas before drawing them on your project. Use long curvy lines to give the wings character. Draw circles, patterns, or diamonds on the wings.

CLOTHING
This example shows her dressed in leaves. You can design clothing from flowers, feathers, or anything. Some fairies may make cloth out of cocoon silk, so they might have flowing robes or dresses.

Color is your choice since it is a fantasy creature anything goes.

Give your fairy a world. Put her in a garden, a cave, or inside a tree hole. Have big flowers growing over her, so she looks small. Give her some friends like a robin or a squirrel, but make them bigger than she is.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES

Start with a pencil that draws lightly and is easy to erase, like a 2b or hb pencil. You will draw the first part lightly and you will want to erase some of the beginning steps when you get further along.

The dancer's pose is always extreme and often it is unnatural. In our illustration, the dancer is leaping with one leg far forward and one far back. A note about the anatomy: because of the human hip joint one foot (forward) will be seen from the side and the other foot (back) is turned so you see it from the top.

Start with an "articulated stick figure," where the elbows and knees and other joints are drawn with circles to indicate the bends in the arms and legs. This will help you work out the design and the pose of the figure.

Draw the shape of the arms and the legs around the stick figure. The arms and legs are not straight but have curves where the muscles are.  As you work out the design look for the lines that flow gracefully and develop them so the picture is drawn gracefully.

After you have outlined the body then erase the stick figure you used to work out pose.

Keep the hands and the face simple just use a few lines to express them.

Draw the costume last after you have the body and the pose all worked out.

OUTLINE THE BODY

Start with an outline. Make an oval for the head. The head is about 1/4 of the length of the bird. The body is two lines that curve out and down and form a letter "U"

WINGS
The wings are just suggested by two lines that go down each side of the body; they are curved first in then outward.

GUIDELINES
Use a guideline down the center of the owl to help keep things even. (Draw this lightly so you can erase it later.) Another guideline across the head helps to keep the eyes level with each other and in the middle.

EYES AND FACE
The eyebrows start just outside the middle and point to the ear feathers. The ear feathers are like triangles but fuzzy on the outside edge. The eyes are circles that touch the eyebrows. There is a dark ring around the eyes. They do not need to be perfectly round, but the pupil does, you might want to trace a button or coin to make the pupil round. Leave a little square to be the shiny spot it will make the eyes look glassy.

There are three stripes around the eyes and five on the forehead.

The beak is a thin triangle that starts halfway down the face. There are feathers at the top of the beak so it looks a little fuzzy.

FEATHERS
Draw some guideline for the rows of feathers. There are stripes on the feathers. Draw the feathers like the letter "U" but shade the stripes on the bottom of each feather.

The feathers on the wings tilt down and outward.

The tail has four or five feathers. They are short and rounded.

FEET AND TALONS
The feet are bony. Start them as circles where the talons are and the knuckle joint right behind it. The leg is just two lines disappearing into the feathers. There are four claws but only two or three show, so if they are hard to draw just do two, one each foot. The talons are very long and sharp they have a slight curve.

COLOR
Color the owl a light brown and have the stripes on the feathers to be a darker brown. The stripes on the face and chest are black. The talons and beak are the darkest black. The feet are brownish and orange.

This airplane shape has very few straight lines. The wings are curved slightly, the rudder and stabilizers are curved or oval.

The fuselage has a straight line from the cockpit to the rudder and the rudder has a straight line on the leading edge. The front of the fuselage has a cone for the propeller. There is a row of exhaust pipes between the propeller and the cockpit. The bottom line of the fuselage curves toward the wing.

Trace coins or buttons to make the wheels round.

Our drawing has the cockpit open there is a door that folds down with a step on it for the pilot to get in.

Draw a shadow underneath.

Put your airplane in an environment like a landing field with the tents for the pilots in the back ground and the trees of the farms beyond that.

What makes this project beautiful is the graceful curving lines of the aircraft. Take your time and it will look good.

Start by drawing a stick figure with joints at the elbows and knees. Try a few different poses on some scratch paper. Use a large triangle for the chest and a line across the hips to indicate how wide he is. Make the pose interesting by having your wizard do something or hold something.

Once the pose is decided on, fill out the body with the shapes of the muscles. They are long and rounded. The youth is not very broad, he has narrow shoulders, and he is thin.

The hands are like squares, with lines for fingers. The right hand has a palm-up position the thumb is outside. The left hand has a palm forward position and the thumb is up.

Keep the face simple. It is a narrow face and has a small chin. Draw the features with only a few lines, and they are mostly straight since he is not showing much expression.

When the proportions are right, draw the clothes. Keep them flowing and follow the shape of his body. Give the clothes flowing graceful lines. Make some of the lines broad and some narrow for interest. Use shadow to make the clothes rounded.

The orb has some electric magic coming out and going to the staff. Use different lines that are choppy and short. This will give variety and interest to the project.
