PROJECT NOTES

BEGINNINGS
There is more than one way to approach drawing the human figure. This technique starts with a stick figure that is articulated with joints for the elbows, wrist knees, hips, ankles etc. In our pose she is on one toe, the other leg is extended back and the arms are raised up. Use a sharp pencil and draw lightly at first so you can erase later.

BUILDING BODY
Since the dancer has a slender figure draw lines around the stick figure to give it thickness. Add curves for the muscles and joints.

BODY DETAILS
Keep the hands, feet, and face simple. Do not try to draw every finger and all the face. It is art and can express perfection without drawing perfectly.

The hands start like the stick figure body. Think of drawing the bones first, draw the finger bones, the hand bone, and the thumb bone, then draw around them to make them thick. Use the same technique for the foot she is standing on, but the foot outback is only an oval.

Keep the face simple, her head is tilted back. Use guidelines to make a cross in the center of the head, that is where the ear will be, The eye will be at the bottom of the cross arm. Keep the chin small. Make the nose small and pointed up a little. Use a sloping line for the eye.

CLOTHING
Do the clothing last. The skirt is airy and has waves. The top is skin tight.

How To Draw The Dove of Peace. Free Printable Worksheet.

I am delighted to share my how-to-draw the dove of peace drawing lesson and printable worksheet.

Drawing takes time and practice, so if your picture does not turn out perfectly, do not give up; keep on drawing. If you draw every day soon, you will be making beautiful pictures. I have a lot of projects, so come back often and try a few more.

I am happy to create these how-to-draw worksheets for you. I hope you have fun with them and they are helpful. You are welcome to print as many as you like.

Below is a link to a file that may work better if you have problems with the above.

CLICK HERE for a file in photo format that might print better on some printers.

LESSON NOTES

Keep the image as white as possible. The wings are medium to small for their body size. The tail is medium to large. The beak is small.

BEGINNING
Plan to have the dove at a more dramatic angle, not just straight up and down- which is boring. Draw a line for the axis; this line goes from the tip of the head to the tip of the tail. Next, draw a line across for the leading edge of the wings; draw lightly at this point since you will want to erase some of this later.

DEVELOPING FORM
Use an oval for the body; draw this on the axis line. The top will be at the wing edge and will end at the base of the tail. The tail is like a Chinese fan; the head is a circle that goes over the oval of the body just a little. The wings have a curving line going from the edge to the tail. Draw a line on each side of the body to the wing and round it off for the shoulder.

FEATHERS
Don't draw too many feathers. Eight or nine on each wing and ten or eleven on the tail will be fine. Mark the feathers off for spacing before you draw them, so they are all even and the same size. Make them round on the ends.

DETAILS
The eyes are black and almost round, with just a slight almond shape. The beak is a triangle. Keep the feet simple; a few curved lines will work.

Do not color the dove; just use a little shadowing. Color the sky and leave the dove white.

LESSON NOTES

BEGINNING
Begin with the line for the water, this will help keep the perspective true. Next, draw the three curved lines that form the basic shape of the boat, it will look like a long thin banana.  The front and back go high out of the water. The ends go straight up. There is a circle at the back end and a rectangle-like shape at the front.

ADD THE MAN
Start the man as a stick figure holding the long oar. Put him near the back. Make this stick figure have knees and elbows that bend. After you have the position of the man the way you want it then go around the stick figure to make it thick. The hands are like boxes on the oar. Draw the clothing last.

DEVELOP THE FORM
The gondola has two seats in the middle They are half circles with circles inside. Draw a second line parallel to the front and back lines for the keel.

A LOT OF BLACK
The boat is colored black but does not draw it solid- give places where water is reflecting and the paint is shiny. The pants on the man are black, his shirt has black stripes, and his hair is black.

Draw some ripples for the water.

PRINTABLE ART LESSON PROJECT NOTES

BEGINNING
Use basic shapes to make an interesting house. Draw lightly so you can erase later and experiment with the design. Some parts are in front of other parts like the porch or the tower. Show the house from the corner and have two sides. Don't worry about straight lines- in fact, if the lines are a little crooked it makes the house look older and more spooky.

DEVELOPING DESIGN
Add the windows and the doorway. Use guidelines to keep the tops and bottoms of windows all in a line if one is higher or longer it looks sloppy.

Add a line for the brick foundation and two lines that curve outward for the stairs

DETAILS
Add the roof shingles by drawing the letter "U" in rows. Add shutters by drawing long rectangles next to the windows, have some hanging crooked. Add a railing for the porch, Add the brick foundation with short thick sideways lines

FINISHING TOUCHES
Add a fence but have a few pieces falling down or missing. Draw flagstones in the sidewalk. Add bricks to the chimney the same as the foundation. Add a few dead trees on the side of the house. A few tombstones are always a good idea and a bat or black cat. and don't forget the moon.

Make the windows dark unless you are going to have a spooky green light coming from inside.

I hope it turns out to be a spooky masterpiece!

If you have problems printing see the "HOW TO PRINT" tab above or try one of the updated links below that should print better.

LESSON NOTES

Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later.

The poppy is a cup-shaped flower with four petals. Start by drawing two ovals on the paper, one will be slightly behind the other. Mark the center in the middle of each.

Begin to define the four petals by dividing the circles into sections, use sweeping "U" shaped curving lines, do not worry about being even. One petal on top looks like a Chinese fan. The petals on the sides look like curved lines. The petal on the bottom looks like a ballerina's dress.

The edges of the petals are wavy. In the middle are little fingers that come up draw them at the center circle.

The stems are not straight. The leaves look like groups of feathers pointing up.

Sometimes it takes me hours, but I create these how-to-draw worksheets, but I do it so that I can give back because I believe that when you have been given a gift, it is so you can be a gift to others, and I hope these worksheets are a means of blessing to you. You are welcome to print as many as you like.

Thank you!

PROJECT NOTES

Start drawing lightly so you can erase it later. Don't worry if the lines are not straight- in real life these boats get beaten up, and a lot of the parts get bent and crooked.

BODY OF BOAT
The Body of the boat is drawn with some straight lines, one for the top and one for the bottom. The front is tilted out at the top and has two lines for the prow. The prow sticks up higher than the side of the boat. The back is like a  bent rectangle

SAIL
Not all sampans have sails but I think the bamboo pole sales look cool, so I put one on our drawing. It is just straight lines. Two go up and down for the mast they touch at the top and are wider at the bottom. There are six or seven lines going across. Do them in pairs so you have a top and bottom of each cross spar. Connect the ends for the cloth.

PUNTER MAN
The riverman is small, so don't try to give too much detail. Start with a stick figure that has a triangle for a chest and elbows in the arms. Put the punt pole in his hands that way you get the position of the hands and arms right. The hands are like squares. Next, draw the body around the stick figure. Lastly draw the clothing. Give him black pants.

DETAILS
Draw circles for tires on the sides of the boat. Draw an eye at the front of the boat. Add ropes and boxes. The house on the boat is another rectangle with an arch at the end. Use lines to show the bamboo poles inside.

If the boat is light make the water dark. if the boat is dark make the water light. Add mountains and trees on the edge of the river for a background.
