It is a good idea to draw a line down the middle to help keep things even.
The eyes are as far apart from each other as they are wide.
The outside of the nose is as wide as the eyes are far apart.
The outside of the upper lip lines up with the center of the eyes.
The eyebrows are wider than the eye.

Practice this pattern on a drawing without drawing the head, draw a tree with a face or a mirror or a door.

This free printable drawing worksheet, How To Draw A Scarecrow, is an easy drawing project for a young artist or a beginner. Very few rules apply since a scarecrow man is made out of rags and straw, so if an arm or leg is too long, that is OK because after a few days in the weather, it gets roughed up.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES

Quickly scribble out a basic design. It starts like a stick figure with wide shoulders, then dress the stick figure in coveralls and shirt. The hands are a little lower than halfway down. Have some straw sticking out of the cuffs of the shirt and the bottom of the pants.

The head is just a circle with a happy face drawn on it. Sketch a handkerchief around the neck; it is like two triangles, a circle for the knot, and a scribble for the ends.

The hands are just gloves stuffed with straw so they do not have the correct shape. You can scribble them out and then color them in dark.

The shoes look like peanuts with laces. Just draw the peanut shapes then make sure the bottom is flat. Draw some "Xs" for the crisscross laces.

The hat is maybe the hardest part. Draw a rectangle for the top then draw two curving lines for the brim; one curving line goes across the front and dips down on the outside edges, the second is in two parts, one on each side of the head halfway down, this is for the back brim of the hat and will curve up to touch the tips of the front line that curves down.

The pole is two dark lines going from the ground up to his back.

Draw his world by scribbling across the ground with light and then dark pencils. Draw the field as long lines going up and down but topped with short choppy lines for the tops of the grain. Draw the farm and hills very simply so the attention is on the scarecrow man.

Simply stated as the parallel lines of the side of the road recede into the distance they "appear" to draw closer together, and if they continued on into infinity or the horizon they "appear" to touch.

The point where the two sides of the road appear to touch is called the vanishing point.

In my illustration the vanishing point is set on the horizon at the foot of some hills. The two lines of the sides of the road are widely spaced at the bottom of the illustration but as they move toward the hills the lines come closer together until they touch.

The second illustration shows a curved "S" shaped road but the same principle applies. The road is wider at the base and the two sides of the road "appears" to draw closer together until they touch.

It is this appearance that we call perspective.

You could perceive the same effect if you were looking up a tall building or down a railroad track.

How To Draw A Goldfish, Lesson and Worksheet

This is a free drawing worksheet for how to draw a goldfish.

It is an easy drawing lesson for a young artist and makes drawing a goldfish simple. The artist can begin with this example and add their own style or details to suit their purpose. There are no straight lines in this drawing so if you can't draw a straight line you should do fine!

PROJECT NOTES BELOW MAY BE PRINTED

BODY
Start with a basic shape by drawing two curved lines, one going up and over for the back and one going down and over for the "tummy;" the lines will connect at the nose and tail. Draw the tail first as a large triangle.

DORSAL FIN
Draw the top, dorsal, fin (fin #1)  with two lines going up and curving back, the long one starts halfway across the back, the other line is shorter and almost at the tail. A third line curves down from the long first line to the shorter second line

TAIL
The back of the tail curves inward, draw two lines for the curve. (These lines for the tail and fins do not have to be perfect because if the fish is swimming the fins are moving and might be turned or twisted.)

FINS
 Fin #2 is a front fin where the neck would be and a little higher than the bottom "tummy" line. It is just two lines curving toward a blunt point.  Fin #3 it is a little larger and is also just two lines curving to a blunt point.  Fin #4 is at the back of the bottom; it is three lines, a long one starting a little behind the halfway point curving backwards, the second line is short and about 2/3 of the way toward the tail from the first line, the third line is almost straight and connects the two. The fins have hair-thin bones in them, draw these carefully, start at the body line and sweep outward lifting your pencil or marker as you go so they get thinner at the end.

EYE, MOUTH GILLS
The eye is a black circle with a white ring around it and a thin black ring around the white ring. If you are drawing in marker or pencil outline the white ring lightly with a black circle but don't make it too dark. The mouth is a short downward line. The gills are just two or three curved line in front of the fin about where the neck would be.

I did not choose to draw the scales, if you draw scales don't make them too small or too big, take your time to make them even by drawing a light "grid" or some light guidelines to keep the pattern from getting crooked then erase the grid or guidelines when you are done.

PRINTABLE NOTES

If you look at a cylinder from the center side view it will look like a rectangle.

If you look at a cylinder from straight above it will look like a circle.

If you look at a cylinder at an angle you see both the top and the side at the same time; now the top appears as an oval and the side is no longer a rectangle.

To draw the cylinder start with a rectangle, add an oval across the top, make sure it is level on both sides.

Make a curve on the bottom this curve needs to have just the same amount of curve as the one on the top.

The oval of the top needs to be just as high on one side as it is on the other side.

Use shading to make it look round and three dimensional.

PRINTABLE NOTES

Everybody's eyes are different so don't get discouraged if the ones you draw are not perfect because somewhere there is someone with eyes like the ones you drew.

BEGINNING
This simple eye starts with three lines. The first one for the upper eyelid is like a rainbow arch. The second line is a circle with a little bit going above the arch. The third line is a wavy one for the lower eyelid.

Place your shiny reflective spot early so you won't work over it.

The eyebrow is wider than the eye, just make a few marks to place it in the drawing but come back and finish it later since it is easy.

DETAILS
Draw a circle for the pupal, it almost touches the eyelid with its top edge. The circle of the pupal and the circle of the iris should look like a doughnut.

The skin of the eyelids are thick. Draw a second line to show the thickness.

The iris has a dark edge, so go over the outside of the iris a little but not too much. There are flecks of color in the iris they are like lines going from the outside edge to the pupal.

There is a fold of skin above the eye, it is drawn as a shadow with a soft line.

The eyelashes start on the outer edge of the eyelids. The top eyelashes are much longer than the lower ones. There are more eyelashes on the side away from the nose and fewer near the nose.

The eyebrow curves over the eye. The hair of the eyebrow goes in different directions; near the nose, it goes straight up but in the center, it is at an angle toward the ear and at the end, by the ear, it is laying down pointing away.

There is a shadow on the eye caused by the eyelashes and the thick eyelid, it is a thin shadow so don't overdo it.

How to Draw a Lion Face Worksheet.

Start with a light 2b pencil and draw a large circle and then a smaller circle for the muzzle. Draw tow circles for the ears, put the ears high on the sides. (You will erase some of these lines later).  Draw a vertical guide-line to keep things even.

The eyebrow is two curved lines over the each eye. Draw the eye as a circle partly below the eyebrow, the eyebrow is the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid is a darker line curving up at the outside away from the nose.

The upper mouth starts as two circles. The nose is like a letter "T" with a triangle in the center and the arms of the "T" curved up.

The lower chin is a half circle. Erase the extra marks.

The eyes are circles without the top edge, a line up and down make the pupal. The lower eyelid is a curve but thicker and darker.

Draw the fur in two steps. First draw the mane close to the face. The second layer is darker and away from the face. Draw it by moving the pencil out away from the face.

He has only two or three whiskers.

He has three rows of freckles.

Take your time and people will love it.

PRINTABLE NOTES

The body of the shark looks like an upside-down teardrop with a bent tail. Draw it using two long curving lines that wrap around and off to one side. The tail is four curving lines, two going out and back, and two going in . The top tail fin is much longer. Start the mouth as a rainbow arch shape.

When you have finished the basic shape, then start adding the details. There is a hump over the eye like an eyebrow. There are two long fins, shaped like skinny triangles but slightly curved.  There is a fin at the back, but only a little shows from the slight 3/4 view.

The teeth are not even; some are broken, and some are missing. There is space between the teeth, but there are rows behind too. The gums are ragged, so use jagged lines to draw the gums.

Don't forget the gills, they are just curved lines behind the mouth. There are three small fins underneath the shark's belly. There are two nostrils, which are not for breathing, but sharks have an awesome sense of smell.

Color him gray or blue. The underside is lighter than the top and the tail fin is dark but not black.

This free printable drawing worksheet will help put some action into your drawings. This is one method that helps to easily draw a figure in action with drama.

If you want to put some action in your drawings of superheroes here is a method that is easy and will help.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES.

I suggest you start with a light pencil that you can erase easily and cleanly. You can switch to a darker one or markers later.

Begin with a jointed stick figure. We can all draw stick figures but go the next step and put dots for the elbows, knees, shoulders, hips, ankles, and then draw lines for the bones. It will look like a skeleton. Use this method to figure out the pose of the hero.

In my illustration I have him jumping with both feet off the ground, one leg is forward with the knee straight up and the leg is foreshortened; the other leg has the knee straight down and the lower part of the leg is behind the first. The shoulders are tilted, the hands are grasping a weapon, one hand is palm up and one hand is palm down.

Place the weapon before you get too far along but don't get caught up in detail just yet.

Once you are happy with the pose and the sense of action start to fill the figure out by adding the shape and the thickness of the muscle. Add clothes and armor last or drawing the figure will get lost inside of it and things just won't look right.

Keep the face simple. In my illustration the face is turned to the profile so it is seen from the side. The eyes are half way down and the nose is halfway from the eyes to the chin and the mouth is halfway from the nose to the chin. Our hero's hair is blowing back since he is in motion. If you have problems with the face you can add a beard or some helmet.

Erase the extra lines. You can go over it in sharpie and then color it in like I did, in my example I used water colors.

Give him some enemies to jump over and fight, or have him jumping over a bridge that is collapsing, or a volcano.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES 

Begin with a basic outline. The base of the well is a cylinder. The curve of the front top should go down and match the curve of the bottom. The curve at the top back should go up. The roof starts with parallel lines; two for the post on either side of the well, two for the top and bottom of the roof, and two at an angle for the edge.

I draw guidelines that form a grid on the roof for the shingles. Draw this lightly since you may need to erase extra marks. Make some shingles wider than others but keep them pretty much the same length. Don't draw everyone; on some, just give a slight suggestion that the shingle is there, making it look old and weathered.

The side posts are three lines going up and down. There is a cross piece for the bucket to hang from, making two lines for this. Remember to draw the rope in the middle. The bottom of the cross piece is darker than the top because of the shadow.

I also use a grid for the stones on the side of the well. Keep this light so you can erase it later. Don't make the stones all the same shape. Give them some different shapes. Draw the stones by outlining them and leaving a gap between each one for the mortar.

The bucket is a cylinder with a few details, like some lines curving across for the metal bands and some lines going up and down for the wood. Draw the crank like a letter "Z."

Add shadows under the stones and the bottom edges of the shingles and inside the roof.

You can put trees in the background and bushes in front of the trees. You can add flowers and a stone path leading to the well.
