TRUNK AND BRANCHES
The trunk is two lines that go down and out at the bottom. Draw the roots like wavy lines. Lightly draw some double lines for some branches so they will be ready to show through the leaves. The branches should go up and out like a Chinese paper fan.

LEAVES IN CLUSTERS
Draw circles all over for the clusters of the leaves. Leave spaces around some of the branches so they will show through.

DETAILS

The bottom of the clusters will be darker. Between the clusters draw shadows. Remember to leave the branches showing.

SHADOW

We will draw fluffy clouds.

Start with the top clouds. They will be the largest.

The bottoms are flat. Draw as a few straight lines.

The tops are lots of circles bunched together. Go over the top edges of the circles to give the cloud shape. Put some inside not just on the tops.

Draw the clouds below the top ones. These are farther away and will have smaller circles and shapes.  Have some of the clouds go up and behind the first ones you did.

The smallest clouds will be the ones near the horizon. Put some peeking up over the distant mountains.

Draw some clouds off the side of the picture for interest and to let people know the scene goes beyond the view.

BEGINNINGS
The head is shaped like an egg but tilted to the left at the bottom. Do not draw the hat or clothing until you have a good beginning on the face.

Mark off your proportions:
     * The eye is halfway down the face.
     * The bottom of the nose is halfway from the eye to the chin.
     * The mouth is halfway from the nose to the chin.
     * The ear is almost in the center.

STYLE
Use straight choppy lines where ever possible when adding detail since it will give him a rugged look.

DETAILS TO THE FACE
The nose is hawk-like, so it sticks out and down like a rectangle.
There is a ridge on most faces over the eye, and the top of the nose is back under the ridge.

The mouth is simple; The upper lip is a line from the nose down and slightly out and then back, and it curves down for the frown. The lower lip is a half-circle that connects the upper lip and the chin. The chin is straight lines.

The eye is squinting. The top lid is arched, the bottom goes straight across from the nose and then curves up a little at the edge closest to the ear.

The ear is simple, with a few curved lines.

The hair is a mess, so draw a lot of curly shapes.

Put some shadow under the eye for bags and put wrinkles around the eyes and mouth. Put a shadow under the cheekbone and use dots on the upper lip like a mustache.

Lastly, draw the hat, coat, overcoat, and wool scarf.

The flowers are trumpet-shaped, but we will draw most of them facing forward. Draw a few circles all the same size in a group. Have some apart by themselves and a few touching and one or two overlapping.

In the center of each circle, draw five lines like a star, then connect the lines into a lead. Put a circle dot in the center of the star, at the edge of the circle where the star points, draw a little arrow mark. On each side of the arrow, mark draw a curved line going down repeat the pattern all the way around the circle. Shade in the inside of the star but keep the dotted white. It doesn't need to be perfect since the edges are ruffled.

The leaves are thin like short blades of grass and are crossed in opposite directions. Put shadows between the leaves.

Give them a home in a planter or garden.

Thank You.

You may want to print the project notes below.

The child's figure has slightly different proportions; the head is larger, the torso is more chubby, and the limbs are shorter. With that in mind, draw a stick figure of Red Riding Hood. Give this stick figure elbows, knees, hands, feet, and a rectangle body. Sketch in the basket she is carrying so you can position the arms. Do not draw the clothing yet.

Once you have the pose correctly, work on the face. It is turned away, looking over the shoulder. Use a guideline to keep the turn right. The child's face has a larger forehead, a smaller chin, and a small upturned nose. Keep the face simple. The eyebrows go down at the outside that will give her a worried look. The mouth is just two lines thick, one going down for the shadow of the upper lip and a dash for the shadow of the lower lip. You can use her hair to hide mistakes.

Add thickness to the stick figure to give shape to the arms and legs.

Keep the hands simple. The thumbs are closest to the chest.

Lastly, draw the clothing. There is a hooded cape that has a wrap over the shoulders. There is a black dress and an apron. Give the clothing flowing lines like it is flapping in the wind.

Try wooden shoes. They look like the letter "W" on the bottom and have a pointed, upturned toe. If the feet are too hard, then hide them with grass and flowers.

Add a forest behind her by drawing a few trees with dark areas between the trees, but lots of lots of bushes on the ground and between the trees.

I hope you create a masterpiece!

How To Draw A Kitten Worksheet.

These worksheets are free to print but your gift will help keep this blog going

Thank you!

You may want to print the project notes below'

BASIC SHAPE
Start with a circle for the head. The head is half of the figure. The ears are big they are on the top, and they are shaped like triangles. The legs are two rectangles below the head, one rear leg is behind and between the two front legs, the other rear leg is off to the side. The feet are ovals. After you have the basic design worked out then go to the details.

DETAILS
The eyes are big and wide apart; they are below the halfway mark on the head. Draw the shiny spot in the eyes before you draw the inside of the eyes. The eyelids are black.
The nose is a triangle pointing down with a curved top, there are two half-lines on each side.
The mouth looks like an upside-down "Y."
The chin is a small half circle.
The paws are flat on the bottom and have three lines going up and down for the toes.

Fur
The fur takes a lot of time. Go over your outline and use the pencil to draw hundreds of lines going outward. The stripes are also a lot of lines. The stripes are not straight across and are a little wavy.
The chest and tummy are white.

Add shadow to give the kitten roundness and depth.

How to Draw An Octopus

How to draw an octopus, a drawing lesson, and a printable worksheet.

This is a fun lesson that a lot of kids enjoy.

This how-to-draw worksheet below may be printed for personal use. It will give the young artist confidence in drawing.

How to Draw an Octopus Worksheet.

Sometimes it takes me hours, but I create these how-to-draw worksheets I do it so that I can give back because I believe that when you have been given a gift, it is so you can be a gift to others, and I hope these worksheets are a means of blessing to you. Thank You!

To print the page above, highlight it and send it to your printer or save it to your device to print later. On some printers, it works better if you copy and paste the image into a Word Document and then print the Word Document as normal. If you have problems, click HERE to visit the how-to-print page for helpful tips.

You may want to print the project notes below.

The body of the octopus looks like a big toe or a blubbery bag: draw it as an oblong circle and a bump at the top for the eye. Behind the bump, add another for the eye on the other side. There is a ridge between the eyes, but it is not on all octopuses so don't go nuts trying to get it right.

The tentacles can go any way you want; they can be as long as you want or short since there are different types of octopuses. Draw the ones in front, closest to you, first. Start with an outline lightly at first.  For interest, have one go up so the body is behind it. After you have the first two just right draw the others behind.

The suction cups are on the bottom side in rows that get smaller as they go toward the tip.  Have them wrap around a bit for interest and to show the detail. Draw them as ovals since you see most of them on the side view if you draw a view of the bottom of a tentacle the suction cups will be a circle.

After the front tentacles take shape then draw the ones behind them. Do them one at a time so each one is behind the others.

You can color the octopus almost any way you want: some are very colorful with spots and splashes.

BEGINNINGS:
The face is basic. Start with an egg shape for the head, and use some reference guidelines to keep the features in place. One guideline up and down a little to the right since we are looking at a slight turn of the head. Halfway down draw across a guideline for the eyes and halfway again to the chin draw a line for the nose and halfway to the chin from there draw another for the mouth.

DETAILS:
The neck connects where the ears are attached, so it is wide.

The eyes are almond-shaped. The eyebrows are dark and thick but taper to an elegant point.

The mouth is full so the upper lip is all shadow. it looks like the letter "M" but very spread out. The lower lip is only shown by the shadow underneath.

The nose is only shown by the shadow on the right side and a little mark for the nostril keep it simple. The line of the nose continues up to the eyebrow ridge.

Draw one shoulder higher and the other shoulder low for interest.

HAT:
The hat starts as a large letter "M" spread way over both sides of the head. The bottom is low over the brow. In the middle of the "M" shape draw a hump.  If the hat is too hard then draw a bandanna instead. They wore all kinds of hats, not just the ones you see in the movies.

Draw the hair as an outline around the head first and then fill in the details. Draw it like shapes not as lines.

CLOTHING:
The clothing is three parts. The undershirt which is closest to the neck, the blouse which has a long folded down collar, and puffy sleeves. The last is a bodice it is a dark vest that is laced up the front.

Give her pearls gold chains and gold earrings.

YOU MAY PRINT THESE LESSON NOTES

The urn looks like a goblet or cup on a stand, as seen from slightly above.

BEGINNINGS:
Start by lightly drawing the urn (but save the flowers for last). The main part of the urn is like a giant letter "U" with an oval across the top. Most of the oval will be lost later on but is drawn for reference.  Draw a line going up and down the center for reference to keep things straight. The stem part underneath is curved inward, use the guideline to keep it even.

DETAILS:
There are decorations around the edges. The decorations look like leaves or scallops or you can add your own design. Start drawing the decorations from the middle, go back and forth on each side and go outward to the edges.

The base is a small square but the back is narrower than the front.

The rings on the side are up to you, you can put something else on the side or leave it off.

FLOWERS:
The flowers and plants fill the top and spill over.
There are some grass blades that go up and out.
There are some small leaves that look like upside-down teardrops.
There are some medium and large leaves that look like hearts.
There are some flowers that are shaped like popcorn.
There are some little flowers that look like tiny softballs
There are some plants that have leaves hanging off of a stem.

Fill the areas between the leaves with lines, shadow, and texture that will make it look really full of plants.

Add shadow to the picture to give the urn roundness.
