PRINTABLE NOTES.

BEGINNINGS
Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later.  Draw a vertical guideline up and down for the body. on the line in the top half draw a skinny oval. The head is an oval going sideways.  The wings go outward, like a flattened "X." Draw guidelines first.  The wings together are wider than the body is long; if you measure the body it would be shorter than the wings.

DEVELOPING FORM
The wings are shaped like long narrow ovals that overlap the "X" shaped lines. The top lines of the wings curve slightly and gracefully with a double curve.

The bottom of the wings has sweeping curves.

The head has two circle shapes like eyes. and a little round part for the mouth.

The long skinny part has eight sections.

FINISHING TOUCHES
The wings have lines going inside.
There are four dots on the back.
There are lines going down the back.
There are four legs in the top part. It looks like they come out near the neck.
There are two long legs but sometimes you do not see them so we didn't draw them in.

PRINTABLE NOTES

BEGINNINGS
Draw a reference line for the feather pen.
Think of the hand like a skeleton and draw the thumb and first finger as just bones; this is like a stick figure drawing.
Use a line to show the surface of the paper that the pen is writing on.

Go around the stick figure of the finger and thumb with ovals for the shape of the finger and thumb muscles. There will be a large oval for the palm muscle of the thumb.  Draw a sloping line for the back of the hand

DEVELOPING FORM
Use ovals to get the other three fingers in place.

Go around all the ovals to make the lines flow smoothly.

Use a line for the bottom of the palm; it will be horizontal but curve up slightly.

DETAILS
Add fingernails and wrinkles where the skin folds at the knuckles and in the palm.

FINISHING TOUCHES
Draw the bottom of the quill-like a diamond, and the shape of the feather is oval at the top with lines that go outward from the guideline.
Add a sleeve cuff, or watch.

SHADING
Use shading to give the picture depth. There will be shadows on the bottom of the palm, wrist, and fingers. Don't go overboard on shading.

How To Draw Dracula, Free Printable Worksheet

How to draw Dracula, a drawing lesson and worksheet.

 This free printable how to draw worksheet will help the young artist draw a picture of the Vampire Dracula.  This gives encouragement in drawing a face and hand and a few basics about character drawing.  This is perfect for Halloween.

In researching this project I combined features of different versions of Dracula. The ancient painting of Count Vlad Dracula III shows him with long hair and a big mustache. The idea of the hand grasping is from "Laurel and Hardy meets Dracula," the general face was inspired by Luke Evans' portrayal in "Dracula Untold."

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES.

BEGINNING
Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later. To get a bony skull-like face draw a circle for the top of the skull and then draw a "U" out of straight lines for the jaw below.  Use a guideline going up and down the middle of the face to keep things even. Draw a line across the center for the eyes. The neck connects right below the curve of the jaw. The hand starts out as a stick figure hand with circles for the joints and lines for the bones.

DEVELOPING THE HAND
Give the fingers and hand thickness. Use ovals to give the fingers bent shapes then go around the ovals to define the fingers. At the base of the thumb is a large oval for the muscle in the palm. Don't forget the claw-like fingernails.

DEVELOPING THE FACE
Use straight lines wherever possible.
     * The eyes are a straight line for the top eye lid, then straight lines tilting down on either side.
     * The end of the nose is like a rounded "U" with short "(" ")" shapes on each side.
     * The mouth is almost straight across on the top and a curving line below.
     * Normally the eyebrows are last but they are a big feature of the face so draw them early.
     * The mustache is scribbled over the upper lip.
     * The ears are no lower than the nose.

DETAILING THE FACE
     * The eyebrows are bushy toward the middle and thinner at the outer edge. The look like a big "W" on his forehead.
     * There are a lot of wrinkles and worry lines on the face, especially around the eyes.
     * Outline the hair before you start to draw it in.
     * There are dark circles under the eyes.
     * There is a shadow below the nose and the jaw, below the cheek and above the eyes.

CLOTHING
Draw the clothing last. To make the face look light then make the cape dark,  The neck-scarf or ascot has a big jewel in it draw it like a hexagon with a smaller hexagon inside. The cape has laces that tie below the jewel. Make the cape black.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES.

Start by drawing lightly so you can erase extra lines later.

BEGINNINGS
Use basic shapes to develop the outline. Use a large oval for the body and a smaller circle for the head, then a little circle for the paw under the outside cheek.

HEAD
Lightly draw guidelines to divide the head into thirds, and use a guideline down the center to keep things even. The ears are triangles on the top third, they have a line going down inside them. The center third is blank. The face is in the bottom third. The eyes are closed and are just a line that connects to the line of the nose ridge. Use a smaller circle to show the shape of the upper jaw. The nose is two lines going down ending with a down-pointing triangle at the bottom. The upper lip is just two curving lines like a rounded "W."

BODY DETAIL
The hind leg is a curved line like a stretched out letter "S."  The tail is a line that follows the curve of the oval. There is a hump at the shoulder.

The ears have fur coming out of them.

The paw has two lines dividing the toes. They are rounded.

SHADING
The shading gives the cat the rounded look. Put some shade above the leg and above the tail. Use shading below the chin and shade the back where it curves under. Shade the floor under the cat.

Our cat has tiger stripes. There are three going between the ears, two on each cheek. Put stripes on the tail, the back, and the leg. When you do the stripes start at the line of the back and work inward.

PRINTABLE NOTES

FIRST STEPS

Begin by drawing lightly so you can erase later. Draw the basic shape of the wagon as two rectangles since it is viewed at an angle, but these are not true rectangles since they taper slightly on the outside to allow for perspective. The top is formed as two circles connected by a line at the top. Some will be erased later.

Draw a guideline for the ground so the wheels and steps all line up.

Add two circles for the wheels. One is bigger than the other since the smaller one is on a turning axle and is lower to the ground. The wheels are below the wagon and not beside. Draw the wheels as two circles so there is an inside edge and an outside edge.

The door has a curved top. Use a long horizontal guideline for the bottom of the shutters and the top of the dutch door.

The steps are curved.

ADDING DETAILS

Add a hub cone at the center of each wheel. There are six to eight spokes.
Draw the shutters on the door as half arches pointing away from each other.
The door bottom is divided into sections; draw them as squares.
The side of the wagon has wood squares.
Use two lines to draw each step.
The back has wood slats going up and down; draw them as vertical parallel lines.
There is a stovepipe that looks like the letter "T" protruding from the top.
Under the wagon are wooden axles and scissor springs. Draw the axles like long rectangles and the scissor springs like the letter "V" sideways. 

FINISHING TOUCHES
Put drapes in the window. Draw a person standing inside looking out. Have some camp stuff sitting around like a campfire, buckets, pots, and pans.
Draw a background like a row of bushes and a row of trees. Have some tree branches and leaves hanging over the wagon.

BEGINNINGS
Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later. Draw a cross for the tombstone.
To get the pose right, use an articulated stick figure with elbow, knees, hips, and shoulders. You may have to try a few times before you get it just right. Pose the figure around the cross or tombstone. Save the wings and robe for later.

DEVELOP FORM
Around the stick figure, draw the shape of the arms and legs, so they are rounded. The head is turned down, so you draw the top and hair, like two circles. The hand is a narrow curve like the letter "C" and hides the face.

ADDING DETAILS
The angel is holding a wreath. Draw it as a circle and fill in the circle with leaves and flowers.
The robe is simple; it has a belt at the waist but is flowing lines around the body.

FINISHING TOUCHES
The wings are not perfect since she is grieving. Add the feathers in rows. Make the background dark for contrast.

BEGINNINGS
Draw lightly so you can erase later. Draw a large circle just a little above and to the side of the center of your paper. Draw a small circle in the center of the large circle as a reference point. Use two lines for the stem.

The petals of the Hibiscus flower are like a pinwheel, where each petal overlaps the one on the right. There are five petals. Draw them as sweeping half-circles starting from the center and going out to the edge. Draw two lines for the stamen (the part that sticks out of the center). Draw triangles to get the placement of the leaves behind the flower and on the stem.

DEVELOP FORM
The petals have crinkly edges, so go over the petals and give some crinkles. The leaves have some jagged edges, so go over them and give the jagged edges.

There are vanes in the leaves. One goes down the middle, draws it as a thick line, and then some go out to the edges and draw them as lighter lines.

SHADING
The shading is an important part and so take your time with it. The leaves are all darker than the flower. The dark on the leaves is the darkest nearest the flower and more light near the edges.

The flower is darkest in the center, and there is a shadow under the overlapping right edge where each overlaps the other.

The stem is darker on one side.

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

BEGINNINGS
Start the stalk with two lines that are a little farther apart at the bottom and almost touching at the top.

Add three or four ovals for the corn.  The ovals are different sizes, the bigger ones are at the bottom and the smallest ones are at the top. Start them halfway up.  Draw them one on the right then on the left side a little higher than on the right a little higher.

Mark off lines where each leaf is going to be, they alternate on each side and tilt upward.

DEVELOP FORM
Draw the leaves like long blades of grass that go up and flop down.  The leaves are bigger at the bottom and smaller at the top.  Have some cross in front of others for a realistic three-dimensional effect.  The bottom line of the leaves angels all the way across the stalk

There are flowers at the top they are small rows of circles and flop over.

DETAILS
The corn cob has leaves wrapping around it, so draw a line curving across the length of the corn to show this. To draw the open one use two lines for the leaves on each side, (so it is in thirds lengthwise), in the center third draw a checkered grid, then round off the squares and darken the points where the grid lines cross.

SHADING
Use shading to give it roundness.

This printable worksheet for how to draw a sailboat is simple and great for when your student says they do not know what to draw.  It uses a few shapes and lines to form the sailboat, and then the bottom example has a scene that includes the texture of the water and distant land to interest the project and introduce a little challenge to the young artist. Sailboats come in all shapes, so if yours doesn't look right, do not get upset because there is one like it somewhere.

BEGINNINGS
Draw the line where the water touches the bottom of the boat first, make it horizontal and straight across, and don't look like the boat is going uphill. The second line should be the mast. It will be a little ahead of the 1/2 way point. Use simple shapes to form a basic outline of the boat. The sails are like triangles. The boat is like a rectangle with a triangle at the front.

DEVELOPING FORM
The mast is two lines. There is a cabin, it is another rectangle, on top of the first. There are windows on the side of the cabin. The front sail curves, so go over the lines to give it a curve. The front of the boat has a curve. The water at the front of the boat has a splash.

FINISHING TOUCHES
Draw a little man sitting in the back but keep him simple.

Draw islands in the distance.
Add waves to the water. The waves are thicker and darker in the lower foreground and less thinner and lighter in the distance. Add an island or two and the setting sun.

LESSON NOTES YOU MAY PRINT

BEGINNING
Start by drawing lightly so you can erase later. Use tools like a ruler and something circular to trace around for the wheels.

Draw a line for the ground so the leg in the front and the wheel are on the same plane.

Use simple shapes to start. A circle for the wheel. A rectangle for the cart body. Parallelogram for the side of the awning and for the narrow back end.

The awning is a little bigger than the cart.

The far wheel is a little to the side of the nearer wheel.

There is a post from the cart to the awning. Draw it from the center back to the tip of the awning.

DEVELOP FORM
The awning has stripes. Before you draw them use guide marks so they are even and in order. There are half-circles at the bottom they connect to the guide marks.

The wheel has a hub it is one or two circles in the middle. There are eight spokes. Use guide-marks to make them even think of it as a clock and start with the top then mark the bottom. Next, mark the right and the left, after that do the ones in between evenly. After you have marked the off draw the spokes from the hub to the rim.

Fill out the post by drawing lines on both sides so it is thick and draw the side pieces.

Draw the tubular shapes of the buckets.

FLOWERS
TAKE YOUR TIME! Do not hurry as you draw the flowers. Make different types. Some will look like spiky stars. Some will look like popcorn, some will look like funnels, some will look like small circles. Make the leaves like wavy triangles.

This could be a very colorful picture. Have fun.
