This worksheet may be printed by highlighting it and sending it to your printer. if you have problems printing then see the how to print tab above for helpful suggestions.

How to Draw The Crossed Arms Worksheet.
The man with arms crossed over his chest can be a challenge for a young artist. But the pose can be a dramatic statement and a powerful part of a composition.

Start with an articulated stick figure, where he has elbows and knees, to get the proportions and pose correctly.

The arms are like a wide and low "x." Draw the one out front first, the hand will be left out since it is behind the other arm. The second arm is only the upper arm since it is behind. The hand is like a lopsided square the thumb goes up.

After the height and basic pose is satisfactory add the body to the figure by drawing circles and ovals for the muscles.

After you have the body outlined then design the clothing and the face.

After you are satisfied with the design then go over it with a felt-tipped marker or color pencils.

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

Start the shell as a triangle. Draw a line across the sections at an angle to give it a twisted look, then round off the sections with curving lines.

The crab has an oval face with two thin triangles for the lower half of the face.

The eyes are oval-shaped and on fat stalks.

Draw the antennae before you get too much done on the legs. The antennae have a bend by the face.

The legs look like finger shapes at first, draw them lightly until you get them right. There are three on each side. The two in the middle have fat claws. Divide the legs into three rounded segments. Add the rows of bumps lightly. Draw the bumps as little dots or small shapes like the letter "n" or "u."

Go over the best lines until they look good and then erase the rest.

Put sand or rocks on the ground underneath him and a few bubbles floating over him.

The crab can be brown, orange, grey, or black.

I hope it turns out beautiful for you.

LESSON NOTES

Start with the middle ground and draw a wiggly line for the bushes at the bottom of the fence. Then draw a guideline for the top of the fence. A third wiggly line makes the horizon with a line of distant treetops.

Draw a large "S" for the path. You will erase part of this later, so draw lightly. The path is wider at the bottom and narrower by the gate.

Draw the fence slats as thin rectangles standing in a row. Give them an edge; you can do this with a shadow on one side so they won't look flat.

The gate is open, so the lines get closer by the edge of the gate.

Using a louse scribbling technique, outline the tree behind the fence.

Add details to the fence like the cross beam, the hinges, and texture to the bushes at the bottom.

The bushes across the field are darker, so the fence is in light contrast.

The stone steps are bigger at the bottom of the picture and smaller at the top.

Use different textures on the tree trunk and on the leaves.

Add texture to the distant trees but keep it simple.

I hope you draw a masterpiece!

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

BEGINNING
The body is like a skinny teardrop with a little head on top. There are short wing feathers going down from the side. The head has some feathers sticking out of the top like a crown. The beak is long and white. The eye is small and has a white area around it and a black area around the white area. The legs are skinny.

TAIL
The tail feathers take time to do nicely so be ready to work on them for a while. Start with some guidelines to keep things even. Draw these lightly so you can erase later. Make the guidelines like five or six arches going over the body.

DETAILS
On the guidelines draw the eyes of the tail feathers. The eyes look like teardrops with a dot and a smile. Keep them the same size and space them evenly along the guidelines but not too close together. There is a bunch of feathers at the base of the tail, draw these like half circles going up from the body.

FINISHING TOUCHES
Starting with the eyes closest to the body draw the stem of each feather going from each eye to the body, use a line for each side of the stem. On the stems are fine hairs that go out draw these as short light lines.

Make the outline of the basic shapes. To give the picture freshness, scribble the outline loosely.

The leaves are large and look like floppy spades or hearts with splatter edges, draw the splatter edges as a wavy and choppy line. Put one leaf in front and one behind the grapes. The leaves have vanes that all start at the same spot near the top. Draw these as a straight line.

The grapes are larger at the top of the cluster. Put some halfway behind the others. Put a shiny spot in each grape and a shadow beneath each grape. Shadow in the grapes that show a little behind the others. Take your time with the grapes, and it will look good.

PRINTABLE PROJECT NOTES

Start with an oval for the body. Draw lightly so you can have clean erasure later on.

Each wing is a little longer than the body, (from head to the tip of the tail). The wings make a widespread out letter "M."  Draw the top edge of the wings with a curved line going out and forward and the last third swings back.
The back edge of the wing has the same curves but draw closer together at the end where the edges form a tip-point pointing backward.

There are three rows of feathers one near the top edge, one near the bottom edge and the bottom edge is the third row.

The tail starts where the wings join the body. Seagulls have short tails.

The head comes right off the shoulder and the beak is short. You won't have much of the eye showing since our view is from below.

Color the wingtips black. Leave the seagull as white as you can. Color in the sky around the seagull so it looks whiter.

LESSON NOTES

The basic shape is a cone with sloping sides. It has a rounded dome top and a rectangle base. Use a guideline down the center to keep the slope even on both sides.

Draw a circle in the center of the dome top for the hub of the vanes. From the hub, circle draw a large "X" for the vanes. The vanes are thin rectangles made up of smaller evenly spaced rectangles. Place 15 or 20 evenly spaced marks on each vane to help keep the ribs even. Once all are marked then carefully draw the ribs across the vanes. You have options since some windmills have pieces going back and forth for support some have a cloth covering the vanes.

There is a support structure at the back going across the back and down. It is drawn as simple lines.

Add a window or two. The windows have little roofs over them and little shelves below.

Add a walk-around deck with a railing before you do the wood siding or the stone base. The railing is a line going across with shorter lines going down.

The base is stone. Draw the stones randomly without trying to draw every single stone but give an impression. There is a door in the base; it is a double rectangle frame with two rectangles inside.

The wood siding is drawn as a texture, use short horizontal lines, keep them random so it will not be boring or predictable.

Add trees in the background and clouds in the sky.

I hope you draw a wonderful picture!
