How to Draw a Parrot Worksheet for Young Artist

This free printable drawing worksheet on how to draw a parrot, is a fun project.

This lesson will help give the young artist confidence in drawing. Parrots are cool. They are not hard to draw. This parrot is looking back over his shoulder at you, it is harder than a straight side view but more interesting and will prove what a good artist you are.

This may be printed by saving to your device and sending to your printer or saving to print later. Some printers work better if you drag the image to the desktop and print from there. If you have problems  CLICK HERE to visit the how to print page for some suggestions or try one of the links below for alternate image files that may work better.

Start the drawing with two circles one for the body and one for the head.
Then add a smaller circle for the beak and one for the feet.
Draw two long lines for the tail feathers make them a little longer than the body.
Connect the circles to make the neck and shoulder and erase the extra lines.
Draw a squiggly line to divide the top of the beak from the bottom.
The bottom of the beak is a smaller half circle.
The wing feathers form a long skinny “W” across his back.
A few lines down the tail will make the three or four feathers, round off the feathers at the ends.
The face has a white cheek and the eye is a dot at the top of the cheek area.
Color the parrot red with a yellow stripe in the middle and a blue stripe at the bottom of the wings. Give him a red tail and head but remember his cheek is white.
My illustration was drawn with colored pencils, I used a photo from a book to get the colors right. I only spent a few minutes on it but if you take your time you can do a better job. Good luck.

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

The four-leaf clover is considered lucky and reminds you of St. Patrick, Ireland, good luck, and the Christian cross. It is not hard to draw a lovely four-leaf clover or even a small field of them. Try this lesson and decorate greeting cards, posters, and reports with them.

Start with a loose drawing of a square standing at an angle on one of its corners. The square shape does not need to be perfect. It is like a map or guideline. Divide the square into triangles by drawing lines through the square; these lines should intersect at the middle and themselves be like a long letter "V" at the corners; it may help at this point to erase the corners to maintain focus.

Round off the corners of the four triangles and give the outside of each a slight heart shape. A genuine four-leafed clover will have one leaf, the fourth, smaller than the other three, so if you mess up and they are not even or perfect in size, don't worry- you may have just made it more realistic! Erase any extra lines and color with a pencil or marker.

Add the stem and the grassy leaves with some sweeping straight lines.

Illustration for How To Draw A Four Leaf Clover

My Illustration above was drawn using the lesson plan described at the top. Here I went over the drawings of the 4 leaf clovers with a green sharpie and then colored the Illustration with yellow and green. I used layers of colored pencils to give interest. The shadows were done with red to darken the green. The highlights were done with yellow.

PRINTABLE LESSON NOTES

Start with a light pencil like a 2h or 2 b and draw the basic shape of the head; it is just a circle with two triangles for ears. Don't draw the ears right on the top but a little lower.

Use another circle in the bottom half to start the muzzle. Just mark off the place for now. We will come back to it later.

Eyes:
The eyes are about halfway down. The top of the eyes are shaped like an arch slanted down, and the bottom of the eyes are curved upward. The pupils are black, and the iris is yellow or white, shade the area around the iris dark grey.

Muzzle:
Erase the top of the circle that makes the muzzle and shade in the bottom to make the mouth. The nose is like a letter "U" with some darker circles for the nostrils; it is mostly black.

Ears:
Round off the triangles for the ears; the rest is shading- see below.

Fur:
Start by doing the lightest area first, then the darkest last. You can soften the fur by rubbing the pencil marks with a tissue or your finger.
Wolves all have some differences in the markings. It is a good idea to find a picture to use as a model before you begin to do the fur. The fur is not so hard. Just use the "Cheek" of the pencil, not the tip, and shade the fur out and away from the center of the face.
Use medium pencils like a 4b for the light grey shadows and a dark pencil like a 6b for the really dark areas. Some places on the wolf's fur are white, such as his beard area it is like his chin and cheeks. Some wolves have a white eyebrow or a white spot above the eye.
The fur forms patterns observe them carefully and try to follow them.

Below is a sketch I did of a wolf. I used markers with different hues of grey. It seemed right to use grey and black for the wolf. I did this in about an hour. If I spent a few more hours on it, it would look great, but I had to go. So If you take your time, you will be able to draw a better picture than I did.

How to Make Funny People Letters.

How to draw funny people letters. A free worksheet.

This printable worksheet gives ideas about how to give simple letters personality, It is not hard and is fun for the young artist. You can use this with a poster, card or anything that needs illustration.

This free drawing worksheet, How To Make Funny Letters, may be downloaded to your device and printed easily.

How to Make Funny Letters.

Start by block drawing all the letters in a light pencil like an HB or 2B. You can do this by drawing a box for each letter and leave a space between each box. Not all letters need the same room some like M or W are going to be wider and need more room than I or J. Use guidelines to keep the letters straight and even.

Once you have drawn the letters in plain simple blocks then give them eyes, mouths, and feet. Keep them simple don't try to add hands and legs.

The eyes can be circles or glasses or dots with lines above for eyebrows. Girl letters can have long eyelashes. Try out different shapes for eyes. Try to make as many different eyes as you can.

The mouths can be just a smile, a u shape, a dash, a circle or big lips for the girls. You can have a tooth hanging down on some and frowns for others. A little line under a mouth looks like a shadow of a lower lip. If you put parenthesis on each side of a smile it looks like dimples.  Put the eyes and mouths anywhere you like in the letters there is no right or wrong place.

Put in feet or slippers or flippers or shoes or boots. Just draw ovals for the basic shape. You can have hip-high boots on letters like K or M or R. Letters like I and T can have two feet close together.

The letters are more fun when they have a personality. Make one look smart and one look dumb and one look vain and one look shy or any personality you like. Have some drama between them maybe one could be singing loudly and another squinting like he doesn't like her song. You can have one look like he is in love with another who wants to getaway. You can have one sleeping. Where you have letters that repeat you can have them be twins or the bride and groom in a wedding, or some kind of opposites.

Have Fun.

How To Draw Churchmouse Cartoon - a Drawing Lesson For Young Artist

This is a free printable worksheet for how to draw a churchmouse.

It is a fun project, you can put them on greeting cards, posters, covers of reports, and even little love notes. These are called Churchmouse but they are like little people mouse.
How to draw a Church mouse cartoon

Once you have mastered the basic design you can adapt them to any situation.

Start by making the basic shape by drawing four circles to make the head, body and ears.  (You can trace around coins or jar lids if drawing circles are too hard.  A big circle for the body, the head is not so big and two circles for the ears.

Remember to draw lightly use an HB or 2B pencil at the start, that way you can erase when you need to.

In every picture, there is some cute thing you really like and want to get to right away but save the fun stuff for last. Let the special part be the finishing touches.

Add a circle for the nose and mouth area, and draw half-circles for the inside area of the ears.

Use ovals for Mama's feet and box shapes for Papa's boots.

Halfway down the body draw a curved line for the arms. Keep the hands simple just circles or ovals.
The eyes are just dots with a little dash above, if you tilt the dash you can give the face expression.

Erase a little on each side of the circle that makes the nose mouth area just enough to leave the mouth smiling. A dash underneath makes the chin.

You can put any clothing on the mouse you like, but keep it simple. Make shoes, ties, bows, and things like that big- it makes the illustration look cute.

You can make the tale any way you want or just leave it out. The tail can give it a playful pose.

Color the mouse black, pink, white, grey or brown.

Most importantly when you are sketching something like this remember to have fun!

How to Draw a Tugboat

This is a free printable drawing worksheet art lesson for how to draw a tugboat.

Here is an easy and rewarding project for artists of any age.  It not only uses basic shapes to create the boat but also has a few ideas for details.

Tugboats are cool. They come in all sizes and shapes, so you can make yours just the way you want to. Take your time, and when you are done, people will say," "Wow! What a cool tugboat!"

If you have any problems making the image below print, CLICK HERE to visit my how-to-print page for some suggestions.

How to draw a tugboat worksheet.

Sometimes it takes me hours, but I create these how to draw worksheets, but I do it so that I can give back because I believe when you have been given a gift, it is so you can be a gift to others, and I hope these worksheets are a means of blessing to you.

Here is a link that might print better on some printers.

CLICK HERE for a file in photo format.

Start with lightly drawing the basic outline shape.

Use the basic shapes of a rectangle and triangle.

Stack smaller rectangles for the upper decks. The boat's shape is a little lower at the back than at the front, so angle the rectangle that makes the main body of the tugboat down toward the back. A rectangle makes the smokestack.

Circles make the tires that hang on the sides. They can be any size and don't worry if they are not perfectly round since on a real tugboat they get all beaten up.
Add whatever details you like, such as windows, air funnel, lifeboat, life ring, barrels, boxes, ropes, ladder, windows, and radio antennas.

Go over your pencil sketch with colored pencils or a marker. Color the tires and smokestack black; keep the sides pale. Add rust dripping down here and there. The smoke is darker on the bottom. Don't overdraw the city in the background. You can put a lot of color in the sky and water to make up for the white boat.

I did my worksheet with a fine tip marker and a few broad-tipped markers with different values of gray for the illustration. So you can see it can be drawn nicely with markers.

Here is one way to do the tugboat picture. It is painted in watercolor. I did it in about 40 minutes. If I took my time, it would have been better. (Just like I always say, take your time, and people will be amazed, but if you hurry, it will be disappointing).

Draw a line across the point where the shoulders will be, and a line for the hips. Draw the sides and tail with two lines on each side of the spine. The arms and legs are crooked so draw the "V" downward for each arm and then an upside-down "V" for the legs.

How to Draw a Viking Ship, a lesson for the Young Artist.

This how-to draw a Viking ship is a free printable how-to draw worksheet for the young artist.

This free printable drawing worksheet, How To Draw A Viking Ship, is an artist skill builder for the young artist I designed it for the kids who like Viking ships. You can quickly draw this freehand by following the patterns below. It would make a great cover page on a report or a poster.

If you need help printing, CLICK HERE to visit the how to print page for some suggestions or try one of the updated links below that should print better.

How to draw a Viking Ship worksheet for the young artists.

Thank You!

Some printers work better with a PDF format. To print in PDF, CLICK HERE

If you like this project, you might want to see how to draw a pirate ship.

Remember to draw the Viking ship large in the center of the paper. Use a light touch with a hard pencil, so when you draw over it in marker, the pencil will be easy to erase. Start with the shapes and work from the outline of the ship to the interior details. You can use coins or jar lids to draw perfect circles for when you are starting the rough draft of the Viking ship.

You don't have to draw it just like I did. Don't draw the Vikings until the end and keep them simple; remember they had long hair and beards, so you can cover a lot up. Color the sail with red stripes. The ship's hull could be brown or gray-brown; the shields were made of wood and painted different designs, but I left that up to you. Use contrasting colors to darken in the shadows. I didn't draw this with attention to the shadows since it was a complicated drawing, but you can figure out where you want the shadows, like under the shields or the hull of the ship.

Don't forget the background; you can put your Viking ship at sea with a blue sky or in a bay with a village in the background. Enjoy!
